The Centre’s pollution control panel had invoked the Stage III restrictions on November 2, directing a halt on non-essential construction work, stone crushing, and mining in Delhi-NCR. However, following the significant improvement in air quality, the Centre has now ordered the revocation of these restrictions under Stage III of GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan) in the entire NCR (National Capital Region) with immediate effect.

The Commission for Air Quality Management in the National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas (CAQM), a statutory body responsible for formulating strategies to combat pollution in the region, convened a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the improved air quality. The air quality forecasts by the India Meteorological Department/Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology do not indicate that the average air quality of Delhi will move to the ‘severe’ category in the coming days, as per the available forecast, stated the CAQM.

Under Stage III restrictions, the operation of BS III petrol and BS IV diesel four-wheelers in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Budh Nagar was also prohibited. However, with the removal of these restrictions, residents are now free to use their petrol and diesel vehicles without any limitations.

Delhi’s 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI), recorded at 4 pm every day, has shown a significant improvement. On Monday, the AQI stood at 395, but on Tuesday, it improved to 312. This improvement in air quality has paved the way for the removal of restrictions on petrol and diesel cars.

The decision to lift the restrictions on petrol and diesel cars comes as a relief to the residents of Delhi-NCR who have been facing limitations on their mobility due to the previous regulations. With the improved air quality, people can now commute freely without the need to rely solely on public transportation.

It is important to note that while the restrictions on petrol and diesel cars have been removed, it is still crucial for individuals to be mindful of their carbon footprint and contribute to maintaining the improved air quality. Opting for eco-friendly modes of transportation such as electric vehicles or carpooling can help further reduce pollution levels in the region.

The improvement in air quality can be attributed to various factors, including the efforts taken by the government and the public to reduce pollution levels. The implementation of the GRAP, which includes measures such as the ban on construction activities and restrictions on the operation of certain vehicles, has played a significant role in improving the air quality.

However, it is essential to continue these efforts and not become complacent. The government, along with the public, must work together to sustain the improved air quality and ensure a healthier environment for future generations.

In conclusion, with the removal of restrictions on petrol and diesel cars in Delhi-NCR, residents can now enjoy the freedom of using their vehicles without any limitations. The significant improvement in air quality is a testament to the collective efforts made by the government and the public. However, it is crucial to remain vigilant and continue implementing measures to maintain the improved air quality for a sustainable and healthier future.
