Fortis Hospital, Mulund (part of the IHH Healthcare multinational network) successfully hosted the 11th edition of its “Point of Care Ultrasound in Emergency Medicine” (POCUS) workshop from July 24–26, 2026. Led by Dr Sandeep Gore, Director – Emergency Medicine, Fortis Hospital Mulund, the programme was held as a pre-conference workshop ahead of the 28th National Conference on Emergency Medicine – EMCON 2026, bringing together emergency physicians for three days of structured academic learning, live demonstrations, and hands-on clinical training.

Validation ceremony hosted at Fortis Hospital Mulund, Mumbai for POCUS in Emergency Medicine-11th edition

Now in its second decade, the programme focused this year on strengthening the use of point-of-care ultrasound during the initial assessment, resuscitation and monitoring of critically ill and injured patients. Sessions combined classroom teaching, case-based discussion, and hands-on skill stations, covering both foundational and advanced applications — including E-FAST, cardiac and lung ultrasound, advanced echocardiography, resuscitative POCUS, transthoracic echocardiography, transcranial doppler, airway ultrasound, and common pitfalls in POCUS use.

Hosted in association with the Society for Emergency Medicine India (SEMI), the programme has emerged as India’s most endorsed POCUS training in Emergency Medicine, with endorsements from the International Federation of Emergency Medicine (IFEM), SEMI, and the Association of Healthcare Providers India (AHPI), and CPD credit points awarded by the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC). Over its ten-year run, it has trained more than 450 emergency medicine doctors across India. This year’s two editions were conducted as pre-conference activities of EMCON 2026, scheduled to be held in Mumbai from October 30 to November 1, 2026, and expected to draw more than 2,000 delegates as India’s largest international conference dedicated to emergency medicine.

The programme also previewed a major highlight of EMCON 2026: keynote addresses by the Presidents of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM), American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), International Federation of Emergency Medicine (IFEM), and World Interactive Network Focused on Critical Ultrasound (WINFOCUS), along with special video messages from other global leaders highlighting the conference’s growing international engagement.

The announcement coincided with another milestone, the unveiling of the official POCUS in Emergency Medicine logo at the conclusion of the 11th edition. The unveiling was attended by Dr Srinath Kumar, Academic Chair, SEMI; Dr Sanjay Shah, President, IMA Mulund; senior cardiologists from Fortis Hospital Mulund – Dr Hasmukh Ravat and Dr Bipin Daxini; Dr Kedar Toraskar, Senior Critical Care Specialist; and members of Mumbai’s Emergency Medicine fraternity.

“This programme has played a pioneering role in integrating Point-of-Care Ultrasound with precision resuscitation in Emergency Medicine in India, and Dr Sandeep Gore’s decade-long commitment to training hundreds of emergency physicians has significantly strengthened this movement nationally,” said Dr Shree Sowjanya Patibandla, President, Society for Emergency Medicine India.

The academic programme was led by Dr Sandeep Gore, supported by lead instructors Dr Bharat Patidar and Dr Vivek Solapure, along with a multidisciplinary faculty of emergency and critical-care specialists. It was also guided by international advisors associated with Harvard Medical School, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and George Washington University Hospital, as well as senior national advisors from SEMI.

Speaking on the successful conclusion of the workshop, Dr Sandeep Gore, Director – Emergency Medicine, Fortis Hospital Mulund & Organising Chairman, EMCON 2026, who’s led the program over the past decade, said “POCUS has evolved into a vital extension of clinical examination in emergency medicine. When used appropriately, it enables physicians to rapidly assess evolving physiological changes, narrow diagnostic possibilities, and make more focused decisions during resuscitation. Our objective was to ensure participants developed not only technical skills but also the clinical judgement required to integrate ultrasound findings safely and effectively into patient care. This programme is a proponent of precision resuscitation among emergency physicians in India.“

Dr S. Narayani, Business Head, Fortis Hospitals Maharashtra, added, “Emergency care demands speed, precision, and coordinated clinical action. Structured training programmes such as this help physicians build confidence in managing complex, time-sensitive situations while promoting consistency in emergency-care practices. The 11th edition reflects our continued commitment to strengthening clinical preparedness through practical, evidence-based medical education.“

Fortis Hospital, Mulund continues to advance skill-based education in emergency medicine, with an emphasis on translating clinical learning into improved preparedness and patient outcomes.
